This Weeks Featured Seller Empty Nest Crafts

Hi all, My name is Roni, and I have been crafting for quite some time. My mom taught me how to sew when I was about eight years old. Both the kids are off to college this year (that is where Empty Nest Crafts came from) so I thought I would do this more like full time. I like to make crafts that are eco-friendly, like my reusable snack bags and sandwich wraps. I also like to make my crafts with as many reclaimed materials as possible, hence the golf ball dogs and the light bulb ornaments. Also almost all of my sewing material is reclaimed. That is how I keep my prices so low. I also do custom sewing work, like the photo throw and the Memory Bears and Bunnies, and well, whatever you want. Stop in and give my shop a once over and see what you think. Feel free to convo me with any questions or requests or if you just want to say "HI".Thanks,Roni

Having a Handmade Christmas??

Here are some ideas to get you started. I will start with the scrabble tile pendants. I am making these this year for friends and family. These make excellent little gifts for teachers and friends alike. They are easy and fun to make, and you can easily personlize each one. The ones pictured are a few I made. I made the digital collage pictures as well, I am providing some links to some of my scrabble tile collages. They are inexpensive and come through the email for you to print so no waitng for snail mail!! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.phplisting_id=35806446
This is the tut I used, and I have never made these before and they turned out pretty cute. http://www.makeandtakes.com/links/scrabble-tile-pendant-tutorial FYI I didn't find exactly what the tut said to use, so I just used craft glue on the bottom clear glue on the top, and a clear acrylic varnish on top. It's not as nice as the finish used there but it works. :)

Here are a few other links for handmade gift ideas

If you have any other handmade gift ideas or tuts please post here!! Happy crafting, and happy holidays!!

This Weeks Featured Shop Fine Threads

Here's a little about myself:I always enjoyed crafts, even at a young age. When I started crocheting I couldn't stop and kept trying crocheting different things but still couldn't quite capture the final product. It was then I decided to take a class and after the teacher told me how even my stitches were, I crocheted and crocheted. I still can't remember when I started crocheting with thread but I know this is my favorite yarn to use.I sold my ornaments at craft fairs for years and did very well. I've been crocheting over 30 years now and still love creating new items.

This Weeks Featured Seller Shebbo Design

Welcome to my world!
My name is Şebnem Ergün, I live in Istanbul- the magical city I design decorative handpainted stone and porcelaine objects which is blended with my love , passion and spirit!
I have a 8 months old - kitty son Pasha, sometimes my lovely cat also gives me the inspiration for my creations! I love animals, nature, sea, walking under the rain, feeding sea gulls...I am also interested meditation and spiritual healing methods.
Painting was my biggest passion in my childhood. I had loved to make charcoal drawings and oil paintings until I started the university. Even though my inner dream was studying the fine arts; I chose Business Administration that was “the shining star” branch of those years. After I graduated from university in my twenty, I was thrown into the business life. I have worked in various management positions at stressfull enviroment with high-tempo for over 15 years. During that time period, unfortunately I was far away my painting passion. In 2008, I realized the business atmosphere of Plazas really exhausted me, in July 2008 I decided to rest for a while to refresh myself and I quit my job with a radical desicion!
In my refreshment period; I embraced my painting passion again by listening to my heart..Wise, silent Stones have awaken my inner MUSE! With the inspiration I take from nature, I have started to revive their spirits with my colorful brush strokes…
Also I am painting porcelains with onglaze porcelain painting technique. I attended Porcelain Painting and Decoration art course at Caferaga Medresesi. (Traditional Turkish Art school which was built 450 years ago by Sinan the Architect beside the famous Hagia Sofia.) I am still working on traditional Turkish tile art and free-style painting techniques on porcelain and tiles... Besides; herefrom I would like to thank my sister Sule who accompany me on porcelain painting art; some of her porcelain objects are also listed in my shop.
May each of you have the opportunities to listen to your heart and awake your inner passion which brings the real joy that already lies deep in your soul; like I did 
To God, I am thankful for my artistic talent; I will continue painting and coloring my creations with the inspiration I take from the whole universe.
Greetings from Istanbul! Shebbodesign.

This Weeks Featured Seller Inki Handmade

"I grew up in Switzerland , then moved to America where I spent most of the latter half of my life. This past year, I moved back to Switzerland with my husband and our three cats. We’ve been settling in, enjoying the scenery and of course, crafting!

Besides crafting, I also enjoy hiking (it’s Switzerland ’s national sport, lol), biking, reading a good book, and hanging out with friends.

I’ve always had an affinity for the arts+crafts, starting from when I was little. I would doodle horses on paper, the wall, anywhere I could. My mother would crochet fancy dresses for my Barbie dolls, I loved them! When I eventually re-discovered crocheting in Los Angeles , I found many more crafts that I liked, including sewing and paper crafting. Starting an online business provided a way for me to share what I’ve made and help with the costs of obtaining supplies to continue to craft."

I Made My Kids Costumes For Halloween Here's How

This year for the first time I really wanted to make my halloween costumes for my girls. They were all over the idea, and had a great time in the fabric shop. We decided on witch costumes. I made a skirts, capes, and brooms for them.

1) Skirts: we decided on 2 different tulles for the skirts, and I took 2 yards of each. I used this method to make them http://thatgirlscrafty.blogspot.com/2009/09/tutorial-line-skirt-with-elastic-waist.html but instead of using a normal measurment for the width I made them like 3 times wider than that to create a more poofy skirt. I did the same measurements for each layer of tulle, and sewed them together at the top. Then I fooled the rest of the steps in the tut mentioned above. If you would like a tut for a no sew tutu this is a good one http://www.flickr.com/photos/ambrosialove/522118984/

2) Capes: The girls chose their fabric and I took 1 meter for each (almost a yard) They cut by Meters in Europe :) First I made straps by cutting 2 strips folding right sides together and turned right sideout by sticking a safety pin and feeding it through. Then I measured the across the back with arms extended. and I hemmed the top, then I sewed the straps around the neck area. My girls asked for a kind of winged cape to "fly" better :) so I put a small loop of elastic at each end for them to feed their hands through, and then I cut the bottom on kind of a half circle.

3) Brooms I think we had the most fun with this one. We went to the forest gatherd up small twigs and sticks for the bottom, and a big stick for the handle. We then put all the small sticks together and wrapped them with wire, and twine.

The rest of their costumes were just items we already had here. I have to say my days of purchasing costumes are over. It was so much more fun for my girls to be invloved the process of making thier costumes rather than just choosing them off the rack.

If you have any handmade costume ideas feel free to post them here. Happy Haunting!!

This Weeks Featured Seller Dig The Earth

My name is Kev and I'm one of the minority, the elusive Etsy male! I live in Yorkshire, UK with my wife and two young boys. My shop is called Dig The Earth, and I produce a range of eco-friendly greetings cards. All my cards are made from 100% recycled stock and come with fully biodegradable protective corn-starch 'cello wraps' – no harmful plastic involved at all! I also produce a range of hand drawn mirror frames. These are all shop bought frames that are made unique and hopefully a lot more desirable with my illustrations! I seem to spend a fair chunk of my time taking product photographs of my wife's fantastic handmade jewellery (you can check out some of my work in her Etsy shop: RubySpiritDesigns), but my 'proper job' is running the artwork studio for a design agency. I write a weekly blog for a UK based handmade site: www.coriandr.com and also post daily on my own handmade inspirational products blog: http://ilovehandmadeblog.blogspot.com – which aims to promote beautiful handmade products from around the world!

Easy Fun & Yummy Fall Recipes to do with your Kids

I love cooking with my girls and they love it too. So I have compiled a few of our favorite fall time recipies for you to try with your kids.

Easy Caramel Corn

1/4 cup corn syrup
1 stick of butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Put popcorn in a heavy paper bag. Melt butter in a saucepan and mix together sugar, syrup, and salt. Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and stir well. Pour into paper bag and stir with a wooden spoon.

Put bag in microwave and cook on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Take out and shake well. Cook for another 1 1/2 minutes. Shake bag again and pour into a large container. Serve in paper baggies that kids can decorate.

Pumpkin Bread

3 cups sugar
1 cup oil
3 eggs
2 cups pumpkin
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
1 cup pecans, chopped

Mix together sugar, oil, eggs, pumpkin, and vanilla in a large bowl. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl, add to pumpkin mixture, and stir well. Then add nuts. Bake in 2 loaf pans or coffee cans in a 350F degree oven for 1 hour 10 minutes.

Rinse apples, pat dry, and remove apple stems and insert a popsicle stick into stem of each apple. Combine the cream and caramels in a saucepan over medium heat. This Weeks Featured Shop Kootenay Bath Products

Who dosen't love a nice bubble bath from time to time?? Check out this weeks seller she has great products and and even better prices!!

My name is Charlene, I live in a small town of Balfour, BC and I’m a wife and a mother of two great children who swim all year and they compete in the summer all over the Kootenays.

How Kootenay Bath Products came to be is that I ended up spending too much money on bubble baths and body butters from other store, that in 2007” I started making my own bath products. I decided to sell on line with Ebay and Etsy and that has been doing very well for me, I’ve shipped all over the world and alot of repeat customers. I do sell in some local stores here in Balfour at Gift and Gill as well as Nelson at the Kootenay Co-op and Mermaid Gallery. This summer started selling my products at Figments in Kaslo and at The Lady in the Tub Bed and Bath Boutique in Salmon Arm. Just recently a spa in Iqaluit, Nunavut (Canada) started selling my whipped body butters.

My packaging is nothing fancy, it’s all about what is inside. I make it affordable, because once you try them you’ll be back for more.

One question would you rather pay for packaging or the product? I personally would pay for a great product rather than their labels and a not so great product. If you spend $25.00 or more you will receive a free gift ( $8.00 value)

Tutorial Make a Coin Purse in 6 Easy steps!!

This is one of my favorite things to make. They are so handy and versitile, and they make great gifts as everyone needs one of these at one point.

You will need about 1/2 yard of fabric, matching thread, velcro, and sewing machine.

1) Cut 2 pieces of fabric into a rectangle, and sew right sides together leaving a small hole.
2) Turn the fabric right side out.
3)Stitch up the hole, you may want to stitch all the way around for extra durability.
4) Mark your spot for your velcro by laying your rectangle flat and folding the top up and the bottom down to where they overlap.
5) Pin your velcro in place and stitch using a small zigzag stitch all the way around.
6) Now fold the bottom up and stitch up the sides and Voila you are all done!!

As always If you've made something from any of my tuts I would love to post a picture. You can send it to me at bellesmademoiselles@yahoo.com and I will blog about you!!

This Weeks Featured Shop Studio MME

My shop, Studio MME, is where I sell unsigned and unnumbered prints of my original pen and ink illustrations. I work a lot with fairy tales and folktales but have recently branched out into my own stories. I'm drawn to the Edwardian and Victorian periods and love drawing highly detailed wallpaper. I've also recently stocked my shop with prints of the photographs I took with a 60 year old camera (that still had unused film in it) that I found in my grandmother's closet. It was so cool! The images look like they were taken decades ago, all grainy and foggy in areas. A very nice vintage touch.I've also had the pleasure of recently working with Polarity on Etsy. She's used her amazing talents and my prints to make two of her signature lockets. One features Ophelia, Hamlet, and a section of the play, while the other shows the big-wigged women from my, "A Very Victorian Tea Party," print. You can find both for sale at Polarity's shop, http://www.polarity.etsy.com/

This Weeks Featured Shop My Small World

Hello my name is Katie and I live in Cheshire in the UK. Etsy has to be one of my favourite places on the Internet and I really wanted to be part of this amazing place, so in July this year I took the plunge and opened my own shop, which is called My Small World. It was so exciting finding I’d made my very first sale, which was a handmade scrabble tile necklace. Since then I’ve been working on expanding my range of handmade goodies, from my first listing which was a felt and fabric brooch, to more scrabble tile necklaces and now hand sewn and embroidered felt needle cases and card holders. I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember, my earliest ‘creation’ was a hand sewn felt handkerchief holder, which I made when I was 8 years old. The lining was sewn on crookedly and the embroidery was a bit of a mess but it gave me a love of making things, especially with felt as it’s so forgiving, doesn’t fray and comes in a range of great colours.Since my first attempt at sewing, I’ve taught myself quite a few different crafts and am always looking for that next project to ‘have a go at’. I’ve always liked the ‘teach yourself as you go along’ approach, as I’m impatient when it comes to learning, I just want to look at how something’s made and start having a go right away! Saying that, I’m extremely patient if I don’t get it right first time and will keep trying until I’m happy with whatever I’m making. The only craft I haven’t been able to master so far is crochet, I used to be able to crochet “granny squares” but then decided to try my hand at knitting. Ever since I picked up a pair of knitting needles I can’t figure out how to crochet at all. It’s so weird – am I the first person ever to un-learn how to make something?I’ve still more ideas in the pipeline for my new shop, I’d like to sell some of the hand sewn mohair teddy bears I’ve made and I’ve got more ideas for my handmade felt goodies. Now if only I could get my head around crochet….

New Items from Belles Mademoiselles

I have put up a few new items for sale, and I thought I'd show them off here. Ofcourse with fall and winter coming there will be more items to follow. These are the items I have recently finished. I am a huge fan of halloween, and I will be adding more halloweenish (is that even a word?) items soon. The items pictured are some of my newest iron on appliques. The ghost and jack o lantern come in a set, and the pieces come seperatley so they can be placed how ever. I use these all the time for my kids older shirts and dresses, even pants, they're great for covering up holes, and stains, and they are fun and easy to use. I have a lot more listed in my shop feel free to visit me there. www.BellesMademoiselles.etsy.com
